Karen  Ashton - Curator of Quilts from the Holiday Quilt Auction & UVQG & Thimble Creek Quilters

The story of  how the Thimble Creek Quilters got their name.

For over 20 years, we did not have a name for the group.  We thought "the Most Supreme, High Quilters".  That was it.  Or the "Wednesday Girls". I didn’t like girl, sounded like a call kind of thing.

So we decided we needed a name.

We liked “Thimble Creek Quilters”.  But, I mean, shouldn’t there be a Thimble Creek if you are going to call yourselves that?

So we went up to Wallsburg and found a creek behind a pond that I have up there and threw in all our thimbles and dubbed it Thimble Creek and then we called ourselves Thimble Creek Quilters.

It took about 20 years to find a name so we are fairly young.
